FeedTest Season Averages - September 2014 to April 2015

FeedTest, the hay and animal fodder testing division owned by AWTA, has published the average fodder test results for the 2014/15 season.

In general, hay results are better than last season with higher proteins (0.5%) and energies (0.4MJ per kg) and correspondingly lower fibres.  Silages were fairly similar to last year.

Limestone Analysis - Agrifood Technology WA

Following the successful proficiency trials conducted with the West Australian Department of Agriculture and Food, Agrifood Technology WA now holds a status as an approved laboratory for the assessment and analysis of liming materials in accordance with Lime WA Code of Practice. Agrifood Technology is a division of AWTA Ltd.

Key Test Data Summary for March 2015

The monthly comparisons of Total Lots, Bales and Weight for March 2015 compared with the same period last season are: +9.4%, +11.6% and +12.2% respectively.

Australian wool production unchanged in 2014/15 and predicted to ease in 2015/16

  • The Australian Wool Production Forecasting Committee forecasts shorn wool production for 2014/15 at 341 mkg, the same as the 2013/14 level. This reflects a small drop in shorn sheep numbers offset by higher average fleece weights.
  • The Committee’s first projection for 2015/16 has been set at 332 mkg, down by 2.7% from 2014/15, a result of lower sheep numbers arising from the high sheep and lamb turn-off rates this season.

Australian Fleece Competition 2015

Entries are now open for the Australian Fleece Competition, to be held as part of the Australian Sheep and Wool Show in Bendigo Victoria 17-19 July 2015.
